On Yourself

What does self-discovery mean to you?

Self discovery means allowing yourself to be open to new things in all facets of your life. Challenging yourself daily. Asking have I done enough, given myself enough opportunity or even made things better for not only myself, but the people and the world around me. Trying new things, looking from a different perspective. In everything from what we eat - to how we take care of our minds and bodies - to how we support ourselves, our partners and our loved ones emotionally and beyond.

I constantly want to try new things, seek new challenges and go past the places I have experienced. Keeping myself in a bit of ongoing discomfort and curiosity.

Can you describe your relationship to your sexuality?

I like my body and appreciate it. I am a pretty sexual person. I know what I like and am not afraid to say it or tell my husband what I want. I am also not afraid to experiment.  I am thankful to have a partner who is absolutely amazing and appreciates all of me.

How do you give yourself pleasure?

I think there are many facets of pleasure. An amazing meal with those you love and the taste of something delicious. A glass of really lovely red wine - I enjoy the feel of it in my mouth. Cuddling your pup and listening to the deep grumble of happiness from your embrace. Smiling at a stranger on the subway - to show them that even someone they don’t know cares. Working out and feeling the pleasure of being drenched in sweat from pushing your body to its limits and tasting salt on your lips from perspiration. A wonderful night in bed with the one I Love. Every facet of life has some form of pleasure.

How do you ask for what you want?

Directly. I think it’s important to ask for what you want. Sometimes you need to be strategic, but I believe you should always ask for what you want as openly and honestly as possible.

On Womankind

What’s your favorite part about being a woman?

What’s not to like about being a woman? We are fierce, sensual and intelligent. I love that we can do so much and give so much to ourselves and those around us. That we aren’t afraid to multi-task and care. We always get it done and we do it with grace.

What advice would you have for women early in their self-discovery?

Be confident and appreciate who you are at every stage. When I look back at some of my early years I wish I would have loved myself harder and been more confident because I was so beautiful - not in an arrogant way - but I was just so full of light and gorgeous. And I was pretty hard on myself.  So I would say take care of yourself, be confident and know your worth.

In terms of pleasure, what do you think women don’t talk about enough?

Everything. And we don’t take enough credit. We always want  to give everyone else credit - which is a beautiful thing - but we also need to revel in our own moments of joy, pleasure and success. More self care and personal celebration.
